Despite having a handful of children, Steven's offspring had remained unified in silence since the docuseries was released, but now his twin sons Steven Junior and Bill have spoken out about the controversies surrounding their dad.

"The first 18 years are the most critical, where you make that father-son relationship," said one of the boys, now 25. He explained how he had wanted to change his name to take his wife's surname, but she had refused, and how he thinks a part of his life has been robbed if his father is indeed innocent.

With one of the boys convinced that Steven didn't murder Teresa, the other said they were unsure, but one thing's for sure - the pair think that their identities have hindered their ability to progress in life as they may have done if they had a different family name.

One brother for example thinks that the military didn't hire him because of his surname, despite being "more than qualified."

The two were speaking on Crime Watch Daily, an American documentary broadcasting in full today (February 8), with extracts of the interview available to watch below:

Avery is behind bars for murder without the possibility of parole, but now has a new lawyer in Kathleen Zellner, who claimed this year to have new evidence which would prove her client was innocent.

She said in her first television interview since taking on the case: "Generally, since 2007, there have been significant advances in forensic testing... The clearest way to do this is with scientific testing.

"Am I going to tell you exactly what it is? I am not. But it's been a long time. There was a lot of evidence that wasn't tested."

Making A Murderer is available in its 10-part entirety on Netflix in all territories where the streaming service is available.
