Doctor Who has been entertaining the nation for decades, with Scottish actor Peter Capaldi currently in the titular role as the time-travelling Doctor. Following his announcement that series 10 would be his last however, the rumours have been coming thick and fast as to who may be replacing him when he does leave the show.
While Tilda Swinton has been the red hot favourite for some time, bookmakers have now suspended betting after Death In Paradise alum Kris Marshall swooped in as favourite with large amounts of bets coming his way.
Maxine Peaker, Olivia Colman and Richard Madden are all also rumoured to pick up the role, while Rory Kinnear, Phoebe Waller-Bridge and Rupert Grint seem to be in the running.
William Hill – who are still taking bets – said via spokesperson Rupert Adams: “We don’t think the decision has been made and for now we are happy to continue accepting bets. That said, the gamble is a clear indication that Kris is very much in the running to be the next Doctor.”
Who do you think will be stepping into the Doctor’s shoes when Chris Chibnall takes over as writer, following Capaldi and current writer Steven Moffat stepping down? Let us know!
Doctor Who returns for its tenth series on April 15, 2017.
