The BBC bosses are hoping the Union J singer will join the popular cooking show in order to attract a younger, female audience, and Josh - who is also being eyed for the next season of 'Strictly Come Dancing' - will be joining The Saturday's star Frankie Bridge.

A source said: "BBC casting agents thinks it's a great shout to soft-launch Josh to viewers on a mainstream show like 'MasterChef' ahead of a possible 'Strictly' stint. It means that housewives will be familiar with him too as well as younger music fans. Debbie McGee did the 'MasterChef' and 'Strictly' double last year, and they hope he will too."

Josh - who shot to fame on the 'X-Factor' - will be following in his bandmate George Shelley's footsteps after George competed in last year's 'I'm a Celebrity... Get Me Out of Here!'

BBC bosses are reportedly lining Josh up for a spot on the Latin and ballroom dance competition when it returns to screens later this year.

The source added to The Sun newspaper: "Josh has caught the eyes of producers and they're seeing if he could take part. He could easily be a fan favourite. He's young, in good shape and can dance. He'd be a strong signing."

Producers are no doubt hoping the hunk will emulate the success of McFly drummer Harry Judd, who waltzed his way to victory in 2012.

Not many celebrities have been speculated for the next series of the show - which was won by 'Holby City' star Joe McFadden last year - as of the time of writing, but Brooke Vincent recently expressed a wish to appear on the programme.
