James Norton is to make a return for the second series of Happy Valley, after playing the villainous Tommy Lee Royce in the first outing of the BAFTA-winning BBC drama.
Speaking last night at the BAFTA TV Awards winners' press conference he told reporters of the news.
Happy Valley also stars Sarah Lancashire and Steve Pemberton and was recommissioned for six new episodes following its first highly successful series.
Creator Sally Wainwright admitted that the pressure after series' one's reception is something she's now feeling, explaining: "The first series was massively successful in a way I haven't experienced before... You need a clear [plot] focus so the audience feel that they're in good hands. It's scary but great."
She went on to defend the show from concerns and complaints about the level of violence, adding: "I didn't think it would be controversial. I thought the fuss that was made was ridiculous. Violence is horrible and we shouldn't pretend it isn't, but it was part of the story.
"It explained who this man is and the lengths he is prepared to go to. He is a psychopath and he will do that. It should be awful to see a woman we love treated like that."
