Emily Symons - who played Marilyn Chambers on 'Home and Away' - has expressed her shock at the news and revealed that she will remember his "beautiful smile" for the rest of her life.

Alongside a photo of them together, the 51-year-old actress wrote online: "I can't believe this absolutely tragic news. Dieter was such a lovely, kind, genuine person. I always enjoyed working with him. I will never forget his beautiful smile, he was a much loved member of our Home and Away family. Thinking of his loved ones at this difficult time. (sic)"

Lynne McGranger - who plays Irene Roberts on the soap - took to Twitter to encourage anyone suffering from mental health issues to "reach out".

She tweeted: "So very sad. Please reach out. Ask if people are doing okay. And tell someone if YOU'RE not okay! Yell over the fence, call, message, Facebook, whatever it takes.

"I'm no expert but surely sharing your fears, anxieties, dark thoughts must help lessen their impact. God bless DB fly high (sic)."

Steve Comey - who played Scott Smith - sent his condolences to the actor's family and shared his sadness over losing a "free spirit".

He said: "Heartbreaking news. We have lost a free spirit. Vale Dieter Brummer. Way too young. Way too soon. My sincerest, deepest condolences to his beautiful sister Karlene and all of Dieter's family and friends. Keep flying young fella."
