Frankie Dettori had lens implants fitted after admitting his vision was degenerated.
The jockey, 52, underwent the procedure before joining 'I'm A Celebrity … Get Me Out Of Here!', so he is completely ready to face all of the challenges the ITV show will throw at him.
He told The Daily Mirror newspaper: "I've had some lenses put inside. It was a simple procedure.
"Obviously, you know, time heals things. The bright light really affected me. Especially in the mornings when my eyes were still tender.
"But it's the best thing I've done, actually, I can read without my glasses and can see long, it’s great. I'm glad I did it."
The sporting star made his debut appearance on the ITV programme on Thursday night (23.11.23) where he had to race against former boxing champion Tony Bellew to move five pairs of pig testicles across an appropriately-challenging course.
Frankie told the publication that his children were nervous of seeing him embarrassing himself, though that is likely exactly what happened after last night.
He said: "I got the same message, 'Dad, don't be embarrassing.'
"I said, 'I can’t promise that.' I don’t know what that means, but all five of them said, 'Dad, don’t be embarrassing!'
Although his stint on the show may make his children cringe, the jockey said that he wanted to take the opportunity to appear on the show before he retires and fades into a "nobody".
He explained: "I'll be honest here, it's not about the money, I was doing it, you know.. I’ve been asked so many times to do it.
"At the moment in my career in racing, I don't think I can get any higher or bigger so to be opportunity to say right you know if I let this opportunity go this time then perhaps when I'm retired and a nobody, then I might not get another chance.
"I was asked to do the show many a times, but actually, I always say, no, because I never actually had the time, but now that I do have the time and I'm embracing it, you know, I'm the first one to say that, I'm nervous. Excited, scared, all of those. That is, I think, if I didn't feel there won't be human."
