Fay Ripley is "completely terrified" of getting cancer.
The 52-year-old actress' 'Cold Feet' character Jenny is set to be diagnosed with breast cancer in the upcoming series and Fay admitted it is something she worries about in real life, as she has seen a number of friends deal with cancer over the years.
She told The Daily Mirror: "I'm completely terrified. One-in-three is not great odds, actually, and I am constantly thinking 'who's next?' I catastrophise, I'm not saying it's right to live like that but I definitely catastrophise."
While a number of Fay's loved ones have been diagnosed with cancer, she admitted she was worried about talking to them about her upcoming storyline.
She explained: "You've got to be a bit careful. As an actress playing someone with a lump, it's not the same.
"When you're talking face to face with someone and they've got it, it's their life.
"It was really much more about me saying 'listen, I'm going to be doing this and I hope you're OK with it?'
"I didn't want them to think I was there taking notes, if you know what I mean. But I could observe my amazing, brave, beautiful, funny, brilliant friends and family who have it and go, that's what I want to portray.
"It's a fine line between the moments when you are sh*t scared and the moments where, you don't forget about it, but you do carry on with your life. And you put the bins out. So it was about getting that balance right."
The show will return in 2019 and Fay's co-star John Thomson recently revealed he is optimistic about the eighth series of the show, which will be the third season since it returned to the small screen in 2016.
He said: "Series six was fantastic. Seven was a bit like 'that difficult second album', a bit of a slow-burn.
"But this one is fantastic, very strong. I can't say much, but two really major things happen."
