John Thomson reads serial killer novels to deter other train passengers from sitting next to him.
The 52-year-old 'Cold Feet' actor is a true crime fanatic and passes the time on travelling by delving into serial killer books, which he has found is the ultimate deterrent for unwanted visitors who may want to sit next to him.
He said: "I am a huge fan of true crime. I love books on profilers and serial killers. But some of the covers are quite graphic and it will guarantee me a table seat in a train alone. It's just what you want."
The comedian also thinks that his interest in gory murder stories counterbalances the fact that he is not particularly masculine.
Speaking on BBC Two's 'Between the Covers', he added: "I feel I am half a man. I am teetotal and I hate football and all sports so I try to make up for it in the written word,”
During his appearance on the book-themed talk show, the former 'Fast Show' star also recalled an amusing anecdote regarding late 007 star Sir Roger Moore.
He said: "I met him in make-up at Prince Charles' 50th birthday for the Prince's Trust. He came in and the make-up lady said. 'What can we do for you, Roger?' And he said, 'Just fill in the cracks, darling.'"
Meanwhile, after a successful appearance as the Bush Baby on the ITV gameshow 'The Masked Singer' earlier this year - John will take to the stage once more as Wilbur Turnblad in a production of the musical 'Hairspray.'
He will take on the role played by Christopher Walken in the 2007 film for a limited three week run over Christmas Blackpool Winter Gardens from December 13, temporarily taking over from fellow comic star Norman Pace.
