Jessie Dingle kisses her ex-husband Al Chapman because she is "confused" about her relationship with Marlon Dingle.
'Emmerdale' actress Sandra Marvin doesn't believe her character is interested in getting back together with her ex but she admitted that the kiss - which will air next week - is a sign of confusion about her marriage to Marlon (Mark Charnock).
She told Digital Spy: "Jessie and Al have got a lot of history. They've got many, many years that they can reminisce about.
"Since Al returned, this is probably one of the first times they've actually sat down, just had a laugh and caught up. Al sees it as an opportunity to take things a little bit too far!
"I think when the first kiss happens, Jessie gets drawn in for a second. She doesn't immediately pull away. But then she says: 'What the hell are you doing?' She says that it's not what she wants to be doing.
"But it's also a reflection on how down she is, how confused she is, and how everything has gone wrong for her and Marlon. It's not that she wants to be with Al at all, so it's quite unfortunate."
And Sandra is worried about the future of Marlon and Jessie's marriage, admitting that the pair don't really know each other at all.
She said: "The problem that Marlon and Jessie are having is that essentially they don't know each other. They've individually got plans for their future, but they didn't sit down and work it all out before they got married.
"Prior to this, she's been fighting for her sons. But she's lost her career and she doesn't really know who she is.
"Jessie thinks Marlon is quite happy for her to work in a shop, or work in a prison as an administrator - just do anything. He's not ambitious for her and I think she's feeling like she's losing herself."
