The 'Emmerdale' actress has opened up about the soap's highly anticipated all-female episode to mark International Women's Day, and she has teased her character will have a big part to play.

She explained: "Charity is on a mission in this episode, and although I can't give anything away, her scenes will have a significant impact going forward.

"I really enjoyed filming these scenes. They were beautifully written and I was honoured to play a role in this episode."

Before the episode itself - which airs on March 8 - Charity has to deal with her drunk fiancee Vanessa Woodfield (Michelle Hardwick), before she's suddenly interrupted by a phone call which leads her away from the village.

The all-female special has been written, produced, recorded and directed entirely by women, and Emma added it was "interesting" to be working with this crew.

She said: "We work with a fabulous team day in, day out on Emmerdale so it was interesting they pooled all the female crew and cast into one team."

The show's producer, Kate Brooks, has opened up about the episode too, and she discussed the importance of showcasing the talents of women in the industry.

She added: "The industry has always been male-dominated, and we want to celebrate that more women are taking jobs in the crew, camera and sound departments.

"We also want to demonstrate the fact that we can produce as show that's led by an all-female cast. We wanted to make sure that we told storied from all different female perspectives."
