The Sun newspaper is reporting that bosses are ramping up the festive drama to an all-new high with the bomb meaning that no one is safe.

A soap insider said: "'EastEnders' writers are under more pressure than ever to make the show's Christmas episodes a success.

"With the battle for ratings harder than ever, bosses are really keen to pull out the big guns for an explosive 2021 - in this case, quite literally. Scripts have been written focused around a bomb being planted in Albert Square - and no one will be safe."

"Bosses are staying tight-lipped about what exactly what they have coming up for Christmas this year, but they are pulling out all the stops."

Plans for the plot are underway with secrets dotted all around Walford.

In 2021, a number of serious stories have dominated the soap's episodes with Janine Butcher (Charlie Brooks) surviving a fire, Sonia Fowler's mysterious father Rocky (Brian Conley) showing up in Albert Square and Stacey Slater (Lacey Turner) being sent to prison under a devious plot by Ruby Allen (Louisa Lytton).

Viewers have also been left wondering when and if Gray Atkins (Toby-Alexander Smith) will face justice for his ever-growing list of murders.

This is not the first time terrorism has entered the writer's room as back in the 1980s, they considered cantering an IRA bomb plot in Walford, however, opted not to follow through.

Commenting on the terrorist plot, an 'EastEnders' spokesperson said: "We never discuss future storylines for the show as we don't want to spoil the surprise for viewers," however went on to promise "plenty of drama".
