'Doctor Who' showrunner Chris Chibnall has told fans not to expect the Daleks in Series 12.
The writer brought back the alien race - the Doctor's archenemy - for the episode 'Resolution' but the "exterminate" shouting Skaro originating mutants will not feature in the upcoming new series, because Chris has focused his energy in bringing back fellow iconic baddies the Cybermen.
Speaking to Entertainment Weekly, Chris said: "I wouldn't expect Daleks this series. Yes, I'm being serious. You might want to expect Cybermen though.
Chris has also revealed that a secret from the Doctor's past will be explored in the new episodes.
During Jodie Whittaker's first run as the Time Lord clairvoyant monsters The Remnants - who appeared in the story 'The Ghost Monument' - spoke about The Timeless Child as being something dark from the Doctor's past.
They said: "We see deeper though, further back. The Timeless Child ... we see what's hidden, even from yourself. The outcast, abandoned and unknown..."
Although viewers thought it was the start of an interesting story arc it was not re-visited again during that season, but Chris has hinted that it will be significant in the upcoming episodes.
When asked by RadioTimes.com if The Timeless Child would feature in the new series, he answered: "I don't know ... OK, I do know. You know, these are always good questions to be asking."
Speaking about what challenges the Thirteenth Doctor will face across time and space in Series 12, he also said: "There is a new challenge that the Doctor has to face this year which is pretty profound.
"I think this Doctor goes into different territories this year. But also she's faced with very different challenges, and they're some very very big challenges this year. You'll see the Doctor have to face down some big things.
"And that, by necessity, takes Jodie's Doctor into territory we haven't seen her in before."
'Doctor Who' returns on New Year's Day (01.01.20) on BBC One in the UK and BBC America in the US.
