‘RuPaul’s Drag Race UK’ star Baga Chipz has secured a major role in 'Ackley Bridge'.
The 31-year-old drag queen - real name Leo Loren - has been cast in the Channel 4 drama set around a secondary school, which showcases the divide between the white and Asian communities in a small Yorkshire mill town, for its fifth season alongside the likes of series regular Sunetra Sarker.
A source told The Sun newspaper's TV Biz column: “Baga caught the attention of 'Ackley' producers, having appeared on a variety of reality shows since RuPaul.
“But while she loves a bit of low-rent telly, she also wants to prove there’s more than just big, brash Baga.
“Ackley Bridge’s bosses were impressed with what they saw from Baga on set.
“And having first been on set last week, she’ll now be back for more in January when she will film again."
Details about her role are being kept "a closely guarded secret” by the show - whose fourth season was delayed by the COVID-19 pandemic from September 2020 to April 2021 - but more information is expected to be released “in due course”.
The source explained: "Her character is being kept a closely guarded secret for now, but no doubt we’ll be hearing more in due course."
In November, the ‘Frock Destroyers’ hitmaker explained that she hates 'cancel culture' and how it impacts her work on and off stage.
Baga exclusively told BANG Showbiz: “I’ve been doing drag for over 15 years but now I have rules. In my act, I don’t talk about race. I work in a lot of gay clubs so I’ll not talk about serious things like AIDS. I do a lot of charity work for HIV and stuff but I don’t joke about those things.
“I don’t think anyone would anyway but it does boil my p*** when it’s silly miniscule things.
"You only have to fart these days and people go, 'Let’s cancel all their work, let’s hang the witch!' "
