Allen Leech of Downton Abbey has opened up about some of the strange gifts he receives from fans of the period drama.

The actor plays the role of Tom Branson, and once was sent a pair of Christmas socks from a viewer.

Speaking to Now magazine and quizzed on who receives the most fan mail out of the cast, he revealed: "We never discuss it. I got sent some Rudolph socks last Christmas and a marriage proposal on Twitter this morning. I said I'd think about it!"

He also explained how Dame Maggie Smith has a nickname on set - 'The Notorious MAG', in tribute to late rapper The Notorious B.I.G.

Insisting he doesn't google his own name, he does however search the internet for shots of a certain fellow castmember.

"I've Googled Rob [James-Collier]. There are some lovely modelling shots of him."
