Downton Abbey was one of this era's most popular series throughout its run; people of all ages adore the 1920s period drama.
This week, Universal Pictures released the brand new trailer for Downton Abbey: A New Era, the upcoming feature film set to release in April of this year (2022).
Downton Abbey, which you can watch now on Netflix, first aired on ITV in September of 2010, and has since become a huge success.
The show, which is set in a fictional Yorkshire country estate by the name of Downton Abbey, spans between 1912 and 1926 and follows the lives of the Crawley family and their servants.
The notable events of the time have an effect on both the family and the British public; events shown throughout the series include news of the sinking of the Titanic in the first season; as well as the outbreak of the First World War, the Spanish influenza pandemic, and the Marconi scandal in the second.
Downton Abbey: A New Era will take place in 1929, two years after the movie, simply titled Downton Abbey (2019), was set.
It will follow the Crawley family as they head on a wondrous adventure to the South of France in order to unveil the mystery of the Dowager Countess’ (Maggie Smith) newly inherited villa.
Both the 2019 and upcoming Downton Abbey movie were written by Julian Fellowes, the creator and writer of the TV series. Downton Abbey: A New Era will be directed by Simon Curtis, who has replaced the director of the 2019 feature, Michael Engler.
In addition to the mystery surrounding the Countess’ villa, there is also a “moving picture” being shot at Downton, which some members of the family find ridiculous, but others are greatly excited about.
The trailer showcases an exciting narrative along with new characters as well as old, and all-new adventures for the cast.
As well as the original series cast returning for the upcoming film, new cast members include Hugh Dancy, Laura Haddock, Nathalie Baye and Dominic West.
Downton Abbey: A New Era will be in UK cinemas on April 29th, 2022.
