Alison King will return to 'Coronation Street' in the next few months.
The 44-year-old actress decided to take a break from playing fan favourite Carla Connor in the ITV soap last year but will be making a return by the end of the year after discussions with executive producer Kate Oates.
A source told The Sun on Sunday newspaper: "Carla is a hugely popular character with viewers, and Kate always felt it was a shame Ali left. So when the opportunity to talk to her came up, she was delighted.
"For a few months now they have been in secret talks and the word among the cast is that Ali has agreed."
Alison left the show in April 2016 when Carla decided to head to Devon to start a new life after blurting out that she had cheated on husband Nick Tilsley (Ben Price) with her arch-enemy Tracy Barlow's (Kate Ford) lover Robert Preston (Tristan Gemmill).
Alison was spotted on set last December, prompting speculation she would be making her return.
An insider shared at the time: "Alison decided to leave before Kate took over the role of series producer, something Kate was gutted about.
"Kate is a big fan of Alison and is keen to get her back full-time as she loved her character."
It was previously reportedly that Alison had "struggled to find work" since she quit the show but that bosses were adamant they wanted to leave the door open for Alison's return.
The source said: "Alison struggled to find work since leaving in the summer and the cast and viewers would love her to return too.
"There was always an emphasis on the door being left open for her character and several storylines are coming up that could make that happen."
