Saved By The Bell

Saved By The Bell

Over lunch the other day the staff in the FemaleFirst office got chatting about the TV shows we use to love as a kid, I mean everything from the High School likes of the kids in Sweet Valley High and Saved By The Bell, to the super power stories of Sabrina The Teenage Witch, The Secret Life Of Alex Mac and Bernard’s Watch.

It got me thinking about all the programmes I used to love watching on CITV and CBBC when I was younger, and I’ve decided to take a break from music to give you a quick reminder, and see if you loved the shows too, coming up over the next few days are a reminder of the shows we all used to love.

My all time favourite show had to be Saved By The Bell, I was OBSESSED with it… my friend Hannah and I always used to pretend we were characters and I was always Lisa, and I used to write I Love Zack on all my school books, even though Lisa was obviously dating AC Slater.

Anyway, I’m getting ahead of myself here, for those of you not in the know, the show followed the exploits of several students along with their principal at Bayside High School.

The main characters were Zack Morris, the preppie charmer who was constantly trying to win over Kelly Kapowski, the beautiful cheerleader who was pretty much the quintessential All-American Girl who was the most popular girl in school and despite the stereotype, she was also one of the kindest and most squeaky clean students.

Also starring was Lisa Turtle, the trendy and talkative fashion expert of the group who came from a wealthy family and was the object of Samuel "Screech" Powers’ affections, but he never had a chance, she always returned his affections with insults and jokes. However, Screech became something of an icon thanks to the show, and although he’s now starred in an adult movie, I still remember him as the school nerd.

Screech fancies himself a ladies' man despite being totally bonkers and doing things like hiding in his locker, wearing extremely loud and mismatched clothes, and obsessing over science and chess - but he was without a doubt, the making of the show, along with his partner in crime (sort of) in the form of Principal Richard Belding.

Also, do you remember Albert Clifford "A.C." Slater Sanchez? The jock of the group who was Zack’s on/off best friend, and the school's star athlete and love interest of the show’s strong-willed feminist Jessie Spano who’s often seen pursuing a variety of environmental and generally liberal causes while keeping up her position as class president and one of the smartest students in her class.

Keep your eyes peeled for another show at the same time tomorrow, and an update on what happened to our favourite characters will be coming soon!
