Sam covers for Maddy in surgery but Jamie is not concentrating, as he is more interested in getting the young nurse’s attention. Jamie fails to give the patient the correct fluids and Sam is forced to intervene. After surgery Sam opens his letters to find Liam Harris 's results. He is annoyed at Maddy for putting the sample in for tests under his name which - if someone had realised it was the blood from the dead body - would have seen him lose his job at Holby. Maddy informs him that she believes it was in fact Jamie's fault for not concentrating in theatre with Linden. Sam realises why Maddy didn’t want to go into theatre with him so he could see what Jamie was like.
Sam informs her that the tests came back negative; Maddy looks disappointed, as she believed that the lack of fluids caused Liam Harris’s death. Sam agrees that something could be wrong after witnessing Jamie's lack of concentration in theatre and tells Maddy that they should do more tests on Liam Harris body fluids. Maddy informs him that she can 't get any more samples from his body so Sam thinks of an alternative plan.
Connie 's big moment seems to slip away as Mrs. Forrester "brags " to Donna about how she and her husband had drunk 20 year old whisky just two nights before. Donna informs a stressed Connie that Mrs Forrester has been drinking and so Connie orders Donna to do more tests on her quickly to find out if she is in fact fit for surgery.
Michael and Ric's efforts to save the young girl fail as she dies from her injuries. The Home Office representative is getting annoyed as she waits for Ric and she asks Abra to tell her about the Tan 's condition. He looks over the chart and informs her that they are fine and that nothing is too serious. Ric finally meets the representative and despite him fighting the Tan 's case she is not convinced after what Abra had just told her but Michael steps in and gives her a second opinion which convinces her of their plight. Ric is annoyed at Abra and asks him to pull himself together and to tell the parents of the young girl that she hasn't made it.
Abra, informs the father of the young girl about her death as the mother is suffering from short-term memory loss. The father breaks down and asks Abra how he can tell his wife, Abra simply tells him "Say what you like" and leaves. The father needs help and he attacks Abra until Michael step in to comfort the father.
Connie gets the results from Mrs. Forrester and finds no traces of alcohol and believes Donna was lying. The operation goes ahead but Connie is upset that Jayne wasn't there to witness her excellent work.
Connie bumps into Jayne in the hall and asks her if she fancies a drink after work to celebrate her landmark work. Jayne barely remembers what Connie had been up to and apologises, telling her that she will watch it online. Jayne agrees to meet her for drinks, as she needs to let her hair down after the day she has had.
Sam and Maddy 's plan to gain more samples from Liam Harris takes them to the tech labs were Sam flirts with the lab supervisor to allow Maddy to sneak in and take the sample from the freezers.
Connie and Jayne sit at the bar and talk about the directory of surgery position, Jayne informs Connie that she is not the only great doctor at Holby and that the job is open to other people other than her. Jayne leaves Connie and she pulls out a printed copy of Michael 's famous surgery paper just as a mystery gentleman appears at the bar and asks her if the seat next to her is free. He takes a seat and offers Connie a drink, Connie accepts and the two share a moment. Connie tells him she could be available for dinner soon.
