Maddy is trying to cope with a busy AAU as Keller is closed for refurbishment, she’s on her own as Linden is nowhere to be found. She deals with a troublesome patient, Mr. Roberts, who is kicking up a fuss over serious stomach pains. She tries to deal with him but he tells her that he doesn’t want her, he wants the consultant. Maddy needs Kyla’s backup but Kyla isn’t working at full capacity as she is having a nightmare with her son, Max. She has been calling him to make sure he is home from a school visit but he isn’t answering. She worries that he is up to no good - her meeting with the social worker is only days away and everything need to be perfect.

Sam finds out that he’ll be stepping into Lola’s old position and will be responsible for post-op care and theatre schedules. Jayne has doubts about his suitability and with all the chaos that the conjoined twins have caused she’s not sure that he’s ready, but he jumps at the chance to prove himself. Challenge number one is negotiating Michael out of rushing his patient into theatre.

Linden is contemplating the Tan twins’ separation as their parents have refused the operation on the basis that it is God’s will that they should stay together. Linden is unsure whether leaving it up to God is really the best decision for the babies.

Daisha hears from HR that her maternity rights are pretty basic and she won’t be getting as much money as she initially thought. Donna overhears this and tells her to get money from the baby’s father – and Mark agrees with her. Daisha doesn’t want anything to do with the father but Mark persuades her to get in touch but when she calls him he hangs up. Daisha is upset and an annoyed Mark grabs the telephone and calls him back informing him that Daisha is carrying his baby.

Mr. Roberts still refuses to let Maddy do tests on him but finds a friend in Kyla. He asks her about Max and tries to offer some advice by telling her to keep calling him.

Meanwhile, there is a problem with one of the conjoined babies, one of them is weaker than the other and this is affecting the other twin meaning that they have to act quickly. Connie gives them 24 hours to live unless they act immediately, but the parents are still not co-operating and a court injunction would take days. Linden is the only one who can persuade the parents to reconsider their position.

Kyla calls Max again and although he says he is at home Kyla has doubts. Maddy tells Kyla that she should call Max on her break not while they are working. As Kyla begins to tell her about the situation Maddy doesn’t even let her finish, she just says that she needs Kyla’s total concentration or go home. At which Kyla walks out leaving Maddy to deal with the situation herself.

Paul comes to Holby to see Daisha, he doesn’t believe that he is the father of her baby and thinks this is just a strange way for Daisha to get back together with him. Daisha tries to make him see sense by giving him dates and offers to let him come to a scan she is having that afternoon to prove that she is pregnant and is carrying his child.

Maddy discharges Mr Roberts as he begins to feel fine but as he begins to pack up his belongings he collapses. Maddy and Kyla rush over and Maddy asks Kyla to stay. Maddy rushes Roberts into theatre where they discover he has Appendicitis. Maddy is out of her depth but there is no one to rely on. She has to dig deep and think hard about how to deal with this crisis – a procedure she has never carried out before. With Kyla’s support she succeeds and Mr Roberts is on the road to recovery.

Linden faces the biggest decision of his career - let both twins die or operate with a small chance that both could live. He decides that they must be separated and speaks to the Tans, explaining that if they do nothing they will lose both babies. They finally agree with his decision and so Sam has to quickly find out the details of an operation on this scale. It will need a big team as separations can take a long time so surgeons will have to work in teams of two in a relay. The twins will need surgeons from all the specialities; Cardio, General and Neuro. Linden is with the Korean parents and it’s clear there’s a close bond between them. Ric looks over the teams Sam has created and sees one controversial name is missing- Linden.
