NOTE: Spoilers for the season one finale of The Flash
The Flash has become one of the best superhero television series the world has seen, with Grant Gustin stepping into the role of the 'fastest man alive' perfectly. Now with 23 episodes having been broadcast culminating in an incredibly emotional finale, co-creator and executive producer Andrew Kreisberg has spoken out about everything fans have seen so far, while also hinting where the show could go in the future.
One of the things he touched on was the death of Eddie Thawne (Rick Cosnett), saying that the "stunning, emotionally gut-wrenching" moment "brings the show to a high point at the end."
"Despite how much we adore the character of Eddie and truly adore Rick as a professional and a friend, this was what was best for Eddie and all the other characters, what was best for the show."
"Having someone do the ultimate sacrifice ups the life-and-death stakes. At the end of the day, he dies knowing he is a hero, he eliminates Eobard from existence."
That death is to reverberate next season, with Kreisberg continuing: "Eddie was a large part of everyone's life. He and Iris spent a year and a half together, and he died for her. Joe has lost a partner, and Barry has lost a friend. Eddie's death will have a major impact on all of their lives as they cope and figure out how to move forward in Season 2."
Calling the season one finale a "satisfying conclusion to the year", there's that cliffhanger moment as a black hole looms over Central City that we've all been left with. Whilst he won't reveal exactly what comes next, Kreisberg did say it'll "come back exciting and surprising" in the fall with a new mystery and new faces from the DC Comics Universe.
He also hinted that there would be more crossovers happening between The Flash, Arrow and upcoming series Legends of Tomorrow.
