This year, The Emmys celebrated their 70th year, as the 70th Primetime Emmy Awards broadcasted live from the Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles, California, with hosts Colin Jost and Michael Che.
To celebrate the seven decades the ceremony has been handing out awards to some of the best in the entertainment business, we're taking a look at the 7 best moments from this year's Emmy Awards.
7. RuPaul's Drag Race breaks The Voice's stranglehold on the reality category
When it comes to the Outstanding Reality Competition Program category at the Emmys, The Voice is a shoe-in for winner year after year. So, when RuPaul's Drag Race broke the mould and took home the prize for the first time, history was made in more ways than one! Our edges are SNATCHED.
6. Game of Thrones reclaims its place at the top
Though its final season is just a few months away, Game of Thrones managed to take the top spot in the Drama Series category after not being eligible the year before. It's a fantastic moment for all involved, as their time working on the series behind-the-scenes has officially come to an end.
5. Thandie Newton's slip of the tongue
Westworld got a bit of a mixed response for its second season, but one thing we can all agree on is Thandie Newton being THE ultimate star of the show. It was a brilliant moment to see her take the Emmy for Outstanding Supporting Actress, and we imagine this is just the start of a string of wins for the talented actress.
4. Hannah Gadsby's #NotAllMenButALotOfThem quip
Hannah Gadsby took to the stage to present an Emmy, and the Australian comedian took the opportunity to make one of the best jokes of the night. "The world's gone a bit crazy," she said, adding "I mean for somebody like me, a nobody from nowhere, gets this sweet gig, free suit, new boots just 'cause I' don't like men." She added: "That's a joke of course. Just jokes fellas, calm down. Hashtag not all men but a lot of them."
3. Ryan Murphy's passionate acceptance speech
When Ryan Murphy picked up an award for American Crime Story: The Assassination of Gianni Versace, the showrunner decided to make the moment a politically-charged one. He dedicated the win to the LGBTQ+ community, and made a plea for "stricter hate crime laws" to protect minorities. Under the current administration however, we're not sure the 45th President of the United States will be listening...
2. A celebration for Betty White
Betty White is one of the biggest names in showbusiness, so it was only appropriate that she finally be given the spotlight she deserves at The Emmys.
1. A proposal for the history books
Glenn Weiss may not have been pipped as having one of the best speeches of the night, but when he picked up the gong for Best Director for a Special, he decided to make there and then the place he would propose to his long-time partner, Jan Svendsen. She said yes, and so one of the best moments in Emmys history was born.
