Hardcore Shameless UK fans weren't really interested in seeing what the American take on the Channel 4 original had to offer, but it's actually gone on to become a huge cult phenomenon in the USA.
Executive produced Paul Abbott was also happy with how the show presented itself: "Somehow all the resonances from the original series occur in the remake, but in a different vocabulary."
The Office
Airing on NBC, The Office U.S. was a remake of the BBC classic made famous by Ricky Gervais and Stephen Merchant.
Exploring the lives of office employees in Pennsylvania, the show is given the look of an actual documentary, filmed in a single-camera setup without a laugh track or studio audience.
Several awards were given to the show including four Primetime Emmy Awards, including one in 2006 for Outstanding Comedy Series.
House Of Cards
An adaptation of the BBC mini-series of the same name, the show is actually initially based on Michael Dobbs' novel.
Netflix have taken it on as an original series and seen huge success, announcing that a third series had been commissioned 10 days before the second had even been released for streaming.
American Idol
Pop Idol was hugely successful but fizzled out to make way for other talent shows of the same nature, whereas American Idol is still staple viewing for millions of Americans.

The Killing
Based on the original Danish television series Forbrydelsen - translating as 'The Crime' - the American drama was developed by Veena Sud before FOX and Fuse Entertainment produced it.
Following Sarah Linden and Stephen Holden, various murder investigations took place and though it was cancelled twice by AMC, Netflix gave it a home and it became one of the most-loved series on the streaming service.
The Killing seasons 1-3 will be released on DVD from October 13.
