Breaking Bad impressed the world

NOTE: SOME SPOILERS

There haven't been many moments like some of those we saw grace our televisions this year.

With tears of joy and sadness, scenes have left us on the edges of our seats with anticipation and on the floor in stitches because of their hilarity.

1) Shocks have been prevelant, and one of those had to be during one of the Britain's Got Talent live shows where Simon Cowell was pelted with eggs from a woman who decided to put down her violin and attempt to coat the music mogul in yolk. Apologising for stealing the spotlight from classical brothers Richard & Adam, many believe that Natalie Holt - the egg thrower - was bitter because her time on the show in 2012 came to an end before it really took off, along with her band Raven Quartet. Re-live the golden moment below.

2) Reality television fans were left distraught when The Hills came to an end in 2010, but it was the alternate ending - released earlier this year - that saw Brody Jenner return home to Kristen Cavallari's nemesis Lauren Conrad that truly shocked those who loved the show - personally I think the set reveal was a much better end to the series.

3) Doctor Who turned 50 with a special anniversary episode 2013 was truly the year of the Doctor, with more Doctor Who related content all over the media than you could shake a stick at. With the show turning 50 also came the reveal of the 12th (technically 14th) Doctor, and the highly-anticipated 50th anniversary special episode, which was multi-cast across the globe in cinemas for worldwide Whovians to watch in-sync.

4) Game of Thrones decided to throw a spanner in the works for avid viewers who haven't read the fantasy series, by delivering one of the most shocking moments in television history, as a large portion of the adored cast were killed off in the aptly titled 'Red Wedding'. If you think your heart can bear it, relive the harrowing eight and a half minutes below.

5) Dexter, Breaking Bad, CSI: New York and 30 Rock all came to an end 2013 also seemed to be the year shows came to an end, with Dexter, CSI: New York, 30 Rock and Breaking Bad all closing shop with some exciting - and some disappointing - final episodes. Don't worry though, Breaking Bad fans - a spin-off series following the life of Saul Goodman - Walter White's attorney - is scheduled to air on Netflix next year.

6) Broadchurch gripped the nation as we inched ever-closer to finding out just who murdered young Danny Latimer in the crime drama - our pick for best crime drama of the year. The show has been picked up for a remake in America, and a novel is being penned based on the series. Look out for the second series in 2014.

7) Joey Essex provided the laughs on this year's I'm A Celebrity... Get Me Out Of Here! His Joey-isms had us wondering if it was all for show at times, but he put a smile on the face of everybody watching as he worried about the 'massive dragon' on the bridge, and the crabs with 'clippers' that might cut off his hair.

8) Gogglebox captivated audiences with a second series, as we discovered that we love watching people watch television. The reactions to some of the biggest shows on television from the families we learned to either love or hate provided us with 13 episodes worth of joy. Check out this clip of the British families watching Nigella Lawson.

9) Jessie J decided that she'd help Comic Relief in any way possible, and that saw her agree to shave her head bald in the name of the charity. Her black bob was a thing of the past as the locks fell to the ground, and she actually looked stunning with her shiny-headed new look.

10) Downton Abbey's controversial rape caused outrage from both citizen and famous fans, with some claiming they'll never watch the series again because of the storyline.

11) Homeland decided to distress fans all over the world as they axed main character Brody - portrayed by Damian Lewis. In a harrowing and emotional scene, Brody's taken to a waiting noose and hanged in front of a baying crowd, the life draining from his eyes as his partner watches on, incapable of doing anything to save him.

12) Everybody's favourite food show, The Great British Bake Off returned for another series filled with soggy bottoms, over-the-top creations and of course a very deserving winner. Innuendos galore and even the hint at flirting between Paul Hollywood and a contestant made this one of the most-talked about series of the show's history, and we can't wait to see it when it moves to BBC One for its next series in the New Year.

13) Who can forget when Katie Hopkins appeared on This Morning to discuss the topic of children's names? Katie claimed she wouldn't let her children associate with other children whose names she deemed lower class, including those with geographical names. It was when Phillip Schofield pointed out that Katie's child was in fact called India that Miss Hopkins appeared a little distressed, but managed to maintain most of her composure for one of the bizarrest debates on television.

14) The third mini-series of American Horror Story kicked off this year with 'Coven', featuring an amazing cast including Jessica Lange and Kathy Bates. Ryan Murphy continues to prove with this show that his creative mind can impress time and time again, spanning over a multitude of genres.

15) Tina Fey and Amy Poehler co-hosted The Golden Globes together this year, and proved that they are a hilarious duo that can hold their own with ease - so much so, that they've been invited back to host The Golden Globes again in 2014!
