A five star resort, great food, stunning landmarks and the lovely holiday snaps to prove it – Britons are choosing travel destinations that will make them the envy of their friends, says new research from MyVouchCodes.
www.MyVoucherCodes.co.uk polled 1,193 people across the UK aged 18 and over, asking them questions about the influences behind their decision when it comes to choosing their holiday destination.
I guess within a group of friends there’s always going to be one who always have the nicest holidays of the group, which can sometimes be frustrating when you can’t afford the same type of holidays.
The results showed that nearly two thirds of British holidaymakers are lanning on going abroad this year, and a cool 27 per cent admitted that, when choosing a holiday destination, impressing their friends was a key priority.
Others chose their holiday destination because they had ‘always wanted’ to go there, whilst one in ten claimed that the destination they chose was recommended to them by friends or family. A further 29 per cent admitted they just wanted to go somewhere new.
Mark Pearson, Chairman of MyVoucherCodes.co.uk, said: “I’m a bit surprised to see how much Britons pressure themselves when choosing their holiday destination.
“I guess within a group of friends there’s always going to be one who always have the nicest holidays of the group, which can sometimes be frustrating when you can’t afford the same type of holidays.
“If you think that a tight budget won’t allow you to get your dream holiday then I’d advise people to not only book their holidays as far in advance as possible but also check out MyVoucherCodes.co.uk where we have some absolutely fantastic travel deals.”
Of the respondents that confessed to choosing their holiday destination in order to impress their friends, 37 per cent stated they wanted their friends to feel envious as more than a quarter mentioned how their friends always brag about their holidays.
A further 16 per cent confessed feeling better about themselves by acting that way whilst a fifth claimed they didn’t go on holiday as often as their friends.
When the respondents were asked if they thought their friends sometimes choose their holiday destination to impress them, 23 per cent answered yes.
