Moaning to friends can make you feel happier.
New research suggests that offloading problems by complaining to your pals forms closer bonds with them and increases life satisfaction.
Experts at Southwest University in China analysed 2,600 teenagers and discovered that constant moaners were actually the happiest.
Scientists say that "co-rumination" - discussing personal issues and negative emotions while searching for social support - is beneficial for both sexes and females in particular.
Dr. Xuemei Li, the study's lead author, said: "It can be harmful, especially if we dwell excessively on negative feelings.
"However our research highlights the importance of strong friendships, which can mitigate negative emotions.
"Co-rumination was positively correlated with life satisfaction, suggesting the more we do it, the happier we are."
The research also revealed that men benefitted from "obsessive whining" but women did not.
