Research carried out by minicab booking and comparison site, Kabbee, found that Londoners have increased their cab bookings by a fifth in the last month, with East London making up 35 per cent of London’s top 20 night time pickup spots.
The research also found that, somewhat unsurprisingly, women are more organised than men, making up nearly 60 per cent of advanced cab bookings.
Night time bookings, between 11pm and 6am, also suggest that North London is the second most lively part of the city, missing out on top cab bookings by just five per cent.
The West End is still the overall top spot for cab bookings, but the East End’s atmospheric party scene, following the celebrations of the Olympics, has seen it top its rivals for night time bookings.
Philip Makinson, Co-founder at Kabbee commented: “We all know that London is renowned for its vibrant party scene, and over the past few weeks we’ve seen a real surge in cab bookings as people start downing their tools to get into the party spirit.
“East London in particular has seen a significant increase in bookings over the last year, suggesting that Christmas parties are moving away from the popular West End, which has seen a 25.5% drop in the last month alone.
The research also found that the busiest time for cab bookings is 1.59am because of the closing times of local bars and clubs.
Kabbee collected data from over 60 leading minicab companies, with access to over 4000 minicab drivers.
Mr Makinson added: “It’s definitely an interesting trend, but regardless of where the party hotspots are, it’s obvious that Londoners are starting to shy away from spending ages in the cold trying to figure out which night bus to take home. If you’re having an indulgent night out, it can really dampen your spirits if you have to leave early to get the last train home from your work or social parties.”
