As most trains finish around 11pm and most office Christmas parties livening up around the same time, many Brits struggle to get home after their night of fun, with many wandering the streets or sleeping rough at the station.
And for those that do make the last train home, a fifth of the them admitted to falling alseep on the journey and finishing up miles from their house.
The statistics come from a recent survey about Christmas parties and the journey home carried out by Expedia.co.uk.
45 per cent of respondents avoid attempting to make it home and stick around with friends, while 58 per cent of those who try to get back home, often don’t make it.
It seems a lot of partygoers turn to taxis, with 30 per cent admitting to paying over the odds for a cab ride back and a quarter revealing that they often spend more on the journey than the night itself.
In order to help Brits with the difficulties of the post-party chaos, Expedia.co.uk is offering discounted one night stays in hotels throughout the Christmas period.
However, for those that have spent all their money buying in the shots, they could join the eight per cent who turn back to work and sleep it off at their desk.
Andy Washington, Managing Director UK said,“We all want to enjoy our Christmas office party without having it ruined by an uncomfortable night’s sleep or a difficult journey home.
"As many Brits seem to struggle to get home stress free in the early hours of the morning, Expedia.co.uk’s discounted one-night hotel room rates are there to provide a simple, cost-effective solution – and a comfy bed too!”
