The Macdonald Manchester Hotel and Spa is easy to find with great access for both motorists and people travelling on the train. Piccadilly is the closest station to the hotel and is only a 5 minute walk to reception.
Warning to motorists there is a charge of £17.50 for overnight parking at the hotel however this is reasonable considering its location and it had overnight CCTV operating. There is car park across the way from the hotel however it is not as secure.
The parking also covered us for the day after, so if you arrive at night, as we did, it gives you plenty of time for shopping and sightseeing the day after, which we took advantage of.
The city is around a 20 minute walk or you can catch the tram or a taxi from the nearby station.
When we checked in the service was prompt and we were asked if we wanted a newspaper and dinner reservation at the onsite Steak House. We were also told about the layout of the hotel and how to access the spa when I confirmed the reservation there the next day. All of the staff were smartly dressed in suits and were helpful and professional at all times.
The room itself as the most impressive I have stayed in in terms of the view. The panoramic room took in all the of the Manchester skyline and at night looked exquisite. We didn’t close the curtains the view was so captivating. I would urge you to ask for one of these rooms if you are staying!
The room was large, with a six foot bed, large screen LCD TV, DVD player, free WIFI, docking station, sitting area, and chaise long.
The bathroom was large and had an oversized bath and separate drench shower with free luxury shampoo, conditioner, body wash, soap, sewing kit and vanity kit. The hotel also supplied robes and slippers if you wanted to relax in your room.
There was a mini bar and room service also if you are so taken by the room that you never want to leave!
Upon arrival we were supplied with a bowl of fruit, chilled bottle of wine and a handwritten card by the manager of the hotel, which added a very personal touch to our stay.
The Scottish Steak Club, again had lovely views of the city while you dined. The open plan kitchen allowed us to see our food being prepared while we waited.
We were given plentiful supply of bread with oil dip and water to keep us going while we waited for our meal.
Jessica, our waitress was very attentive and offered her advice on the food, when we were unsure of what to order and the food was prepared quickly and was very well presented. My order was different to what the menu stated, however Jessica was happy to alter this for my specific dietary requirements. The steak for my partner and my duck were cooked to perfection and the accompaniments were of equal standard.
The restaurant is award winning and it is very deserving of its Rosette status.
Overall, The Macdonald Manchester Hotel and Spa offers a luxury hotel stay, ideal for that special occasion to splash out on elegance and class amidst the excitement and bustle of a major city.
The hotel is rated as a four star establishment, but I could not find fault with my stay, which is why I have given it the full five!
