The Hotel
Rooms
The rooms are such that they should wow even the most jaded of travellers, spacious rooms offer the pared-down appeal a sleek palette - pale grey walls, soft flashes of wood highlights, biege-coloured sofas, and beautiful artworks on the walls, that offer a fresh, distinctive aesthetic - the space makes an impact.
The suite we were in had double glass doors both from the lounge and also from the bedroom that opened onto its own private patio that afforded stunning views over the golf course with its lake and water feature.
Huge bathrooms, generously stocked with fluffy towels, keep those proportions in check too, and while much of the rooms are similar internally, it’s worth requesting one that faces the golf course.
The Spa
The Spa at Formby Hall disconnects you from the outside world, which is no easy feat these days, a spa that stays true to its traditional spa roots offering complete, unrestricted relaxation in a luxurious, intimate space that is designed to enhance tranquillity. A fabulous spa where you can de-stress in calm, surroundings and dip in and out of the plunge pool, sauna and steam room
If you’re craving pure pampering, book a massage, manicure-pedicure, a facial, and add in a hair treatment.
Recommended - Rasul spa treatment where you will enjoy a relaxing steam in a specially designed chamber, while covered practically from head to toe in a mud that is packed with minerals. The mud and steam work together to detoxify the skin, to provide a softening and nourishing effect, aided by a balm that you apply after you’ve showered off the mud at the end of the steam session.
Include one of the best massages you will experience, try the ESPA Essential Tension Massage that includes many incredibly satisfying massage strokes to seek out and solve the tightest of knots.
One of the best experiences for me was the Himalayan salt sauna followed by a dip in the ‘Ice Fountain’ exhilarating!
Food and Drink
The Fairway Grill Restaurant - set out with cosy, comfy booths, they have created a dining space that is both intimate, yet incredibly sociable.
The à la carte menu includes a choice of beautifully presented meat, fish, vegetarian and vegan dishes, from which you choose dishes such as, Roasted Supreme of Salmon - served with crushed new potatoes, greens, and tomato salsa or Rib Eye Steak with roasted tomato, mushroom, and hand cut chips, or for the vegetarians there are dishes like Butternut Squash and Sage Gnocchi or Cauliflower with Bombay Potato, Curry Sauce.
All cooked to perfection by the chefs and served up by wonderful staff who cannot do enough to ensure your dining experience is all that you imagined it to be.
To accompany your meal the hotel has a well-stocked and stylish bar serving a full range of fine wines and to tasty cocktails.
Breakfasts
This is a buffet offering with good range of traditional cooked breakfasts, cereals, yoghurts, and fruits. The service was top-notch.
The Golf
Formby Hall Golf Resort & Spa contains both an 18-hole, Par 72 Championship course and the 9-hole, Par 3 Woodhey Dunes Course
Although when we were there the previous day had been very wet, the course was still very popular with large numbers of golfers taking the chance to get out and enjoy a round or two. – while there was a respite in the weather.
Formby Hall Golf Resort is a stunning destination, whether you are looking for a Hotel with stunning facilities, great views in a central location thats close to two of the North Wests greatest cities, Liverpool and Manchester, or you are looking to visit a first class Spa, or planning a Golfing break or all of these – it is a perfect choice and we cannot recommend it highly enough.
