Piecing together the planning side of a holiday for some is the start of the vacation excitement, but as is often the case, when you’re juggling what feels like a million and one things, booking all in one go is much easier.. Indeed TravelSupermarket are releasing new research today which highlights the continuing popularity of the package holiday 65 years after the first package flight flew from the UK to Majorca.
With the popular destinations on peoples’ holiday list being mainland Spain, followed closely by Greece, Mallorca, Tenerife and the other Canary Islands. Staggeringly over half of the nation has whisked away on a package holiday in the past with a majority of Brits saying they took their first package holiday in the 80s and 90s.
Amongst those who do choose package holidays, most agree they are a great option because they offer best value for money (50 per cent), ease of booking (41 per cent), peace of mind (35 per cent) and assurance that everything is taken care of (33 per cent).
Nearly 63 per cent of the population also agrees that package holidays provide the best value holiday experience overall according to TravelSupermarket
Despite the popularity of package holidays, however just under a third of Brits shy away from booking one mistakenly thinking they come with a higher price tag. Some also fear being allocated a bad hotel or getting ripped off or not being insured if something went wrong.
