There are so many beautiful places in this world but the magic of the Maldives will never fail to impress. The white sandy beaches, towering palm trees, crystal clear waters and mirage-like seclusion has effortlessly lured in honeymooners and luxury lusting travellers for decades. New resorts are gracing the sands every year but the truly elegant St Regis Vommuli Resort stands proud as one of the best hotels in The Maldives.
I had the pleasure of visiting the five star island retreat just a few months ago so here's a little insight into a typical barefoot day in paradise.
Every morning started with over-the-ocean yoga, the dreamiest way to see in the day by waking up my limbs and organs with a soothing stretch and the sound of the gently lapping waves beneath my poses. The salty taste that breezed through the open air studio aided with a mental and physical cleanse proving there really is no better gateway to Zen.
Hopping off my yoga mat and onto my sand cycle, I biked the short distance to breakfast grateful for my awakening in time to tackle the resorts award-winning breakfast. The St Regis Maldives is well known within the luxury industry for serving up one of the world’s best breakfasts, a reputation well earned. The daily spread leaves no room for imagination with every single breakfast item you could think of available to ‘help-yourself’ to at the stretching buffet and then an a-la-carte menu that steals the show by offering you dishes you never even knew you wanted during the early hours.
After filling my belly round with the culinary delights, fresh juices and coffee (made to preference) the rest of my mornings were spent on the terrace of our wonderful room.
The palace on wooden stilts, officially named by the resort as The Over-Water St Regis Suite, was situated on the sunrise facing side of the wave-like ‘street’ structure, so the best time to basque in the sun’s rays was directly after breakfast. Spoilt for choice on our decking between the large day bed, the sun loungers, the over-water netting, private swimming pool, or our own walkway and jetty in the ocean itself, the toughest decision of the day was to decide where!
The dreamy suites at St Regis were the largest in size for their category than any other room I’ve had the pleasure of staying in during a Maldives vacation and the fresh ocean-inspired décor was perfectly matched to it’s panoramic views. The room came complete with butler service which exceeded all expectations and we wanted for nothing during our time there.
In the afternoon, once the sun settled over our raised haven, we ventured out to the large communal pool area where only a spot of horizontally devoured lunch or a trip to the hotel’s fabulously equipped gym was able to interrupt our beach side bathing.
We saw in the evenings at the stunning Whale bar which provided a perfectly atmospheric backdrop for the time of day where the sky beamed like a bespoke oil painting. The scene is set with a deep house DJ set, swanky seating and attentive service and the cocktail menu is beautifully extensive considering it’s over-the-ocean location. With five days on the island we did our best to work our way through the beverage list, every time with a pretty pastel sky in front of us whilst our drinks also added a little pink to our cheeks ;)
This was my seventh visit to the Maldives and another incredible stay in the paradise location, the scenery never fails to amaze me but in this case the resort itself, the stunning marine-inspired structures, the ever willing staff members and the delicious food is what I will remember most about the St Regis Vommuli Resort, the backdrop setting of postcard perfect views was simply the ‘added bonus’ for our stay.
