The Macdonald Tickled Trout riverside lounge Costa
The Macdonald Tickled Trout is ideally situated just off the M6 and minutes away from Preston town centre. It looks over the River Ribble so the views are stunning from the back of the hotel, despite being in an urban setting, capturing the feel of a rural location.
It has recently undergone a 0.5 million refurbishment and now boasts a riverside bar and lounge to enjoy a Costa coffee before your evening meal or before returning to your bedroom.
Upon arrival we were served by Audra who offered us a morning paper, bag collection and a wakeup call. She told us where we needed to go for breakfast and our evening meal. Breakfast was served from 7am onwards, however we had to leave at this time for work so we enquired about getting some breakfast sent to our room. All we had to do was fill out a card stating what time we wanted breakfast to be brought to our room and what we wanted and left it hanging on our door handle before bed. It arrived at 6am, just as we woke. This is a great addition the breakfast service for those who have to leave earlier than the allotted time. There was even selection of hot meals on request.
The room was large with a separate seating area, a flat screen TV and a couch, so if you are staying with your partner and have different bed times or want to enjoy some TV like you are at home on your own sofa, this is the perfect accompaniment to the room.
There was a large bed, dressing table, coffee and tea making facilities and fluffy white bath robes to relax in. The bathroom was also large with the option of a bath or shower and a selection of complimentary toiletries and large white towels.
Despite being next to the dual carriage way coming out of Preston there was very little noise at the front of the building and we both had a restful night’s sleep.
We enjoyed adrink before our evening meal in the new lounge as well as some complimentary snacks that were provided for us by Christopher, including, wasabi nuts, caramelised nuts and olives.
He was very helpful in explaining the menu to us, as it differs slightly from what we are used to and advised us to sample the Argentinian steak; one of the signature dishes from the renowned Scottish Steak Club.
We were served by Luca for our evening meal, who was very attentive and also advised us to go for the steak. He was excellent at confirming what was in each of the dishes we were unsure about before ordering and kept us topped up with drinks all night.
We started with chicken skewers, which were beautifully presented on a curved bed of fake grass and accompanied by garlic mayonnaise.
To follow we decided on the Argentinian steak with chips, after the double recommendation, which was cooked exactly as we asked for it and brought out with a sauce of our choice- of which there was a good selection to choose from depending on your preference.
For dessert, again the menu was a little different from what we were used to- with small sampler desserts, of which you could order one per person or more depending on how full you are. We sampled the lemon cheesecake, sticky toffee pudding and the salted caramel.
I could not fault the restaurant service- we were given enough attention but still enjoyed the space to catch up and enjoy our meals. The food was expertly seasoned and cooked and looked exceptional on the plate, thanks to the time taken on its presentation.
I would recommend this hotel to anyone staying in the Preston area, looking for a weekend away or on business. It caters for both customers easily and acts as a great base for travelling to Blackpool, Liverpool, Manchester and Preston and hence in easy commute of each of the airports.
The parking is secure- with a code to exit, so you can be safe in the knowledge that your car will be ok overnight.
With delicious food, luxury bedrooms and friendly staff, it ticks all the boxes for your next hotel booking.
