Jurys Inn and Cross Country have found that 55% of Brits are seeking accommodation in their nearest city instead of going abroad and are having more ‘citycations’ than ever before.
Visit England recently found that 14.2 million Brits are now choosing to stay in the larger cities in towns in the UK rather than going abroad, which has risen 8% when compared with the figures for 2011.
2,500 Brits were questioned, which revealed that the cost of going abroad now is simply too much and that there are so many deals and discounts being offered locally that people are not as enticed to go further afield. People preferred that they could have a change of scenery that did not cost the earth and reliable transport links.
Jurys Inn have found more bookings this year for their leisure packages, such as their Cadbury World package for just £94 for two adults and two children including bed and breakfast and tickets into Cadbury world, proving to be the most popular.
Aberdeen is the most popular location for the citycation according to Jurys Inn as people are opting to take up the shopping package, which includes a Friday night stop over, with breakfast, for two adults and a £50 shopping voucher for Union Square Shopping which starts from only £110.

Brits revealed that they don’t appreciate their own cities enough with 5 Million feeling this way about their local cities, which is higher in 35 plus residents who have been there all their lives and have taken for granted the things that can be done in their city.
