A leading online travel agent On the Beach conducted a survey recently with the help of 16,500 British holiday makers who named beach sellers to be the biggest bugbear on holiday.
The fact is that Brits work longer hours when being compared to other European countries and so holidays are a time to rest and recoup. Consequently they voted beach sellers their biggest annoyance, reaching 21% against the other factors as they continue to interrupt their beach time.
The survey listed other things that one might find annoying while on holiday, such as littering which closely followed second place. Not far behind was smoking on the beach which formed 18% of the overall vote.
Marked with a prudish stereotype, Brits are not as bashful as the years and the reputations dictate, with nudity forming only 1% of the overall vote right at the bottom of the list.
Surprisingly, the Brits labelled themselves as the most annoying nation within the hotel premises, which might be suggested is due to the younger Brits enjoying themselves a little too much.
History might dictate that the Brits label other nations badly because of past events, however only one in ten of them called Germans the most annoying nation abroad and only 2% voted for the French.
Alistair Daly, Chief Marketing Officer at On the Beach comments, “We all look forward to our long awaited holiday in the sun, so any distractions when we're trying to relax can be very annoying. We are renowned as a nation of prudes, especially compared to some of our more liberal European neighbours; however our results show that Brits are no longer offended by nudity, so it would seem this stereotype is somewhat obsolete. The results also suggest dated opinions of other nations are also dying out, as travel savvy Brits become increasingly relaxed towards holidaymakers from other countries.”
