The London Eye, Cumbria’s Lake District, and Blackpool Tower are the top three destinations and attractions that Brits would choose to promote to overseas visitors, a survey found.
The research, carried out by Best of Britain & Ireland 2009, surveyed 1,000 people, asking them to rank different destinations.
The results have been unveiled after thousands of visitors descended on Best of Britain Exhibition at ExCeL, London, over the weekend.
What the spokespersons had to say
Regarding the London Eye, Louisa Myers, UK Marketing Manager for Visit London said:
"The London Eye is the world's highest cantilevered observation wheel and has become a must do for all visitors coming to London. The views on a clear day reach for miles and you can always see something new. It is one of the best ways to see London."
Meanwhile, Ian Hawkins, Domestic Marketing Manager for the Lake District and Cumbria said:
"We're delighted that the Lake District, Cumbria is so popular with visitors to Best of Britain & Ireland 2009. It confirms the special relationship people have with our breathtaking part of the world."
Julie Holland, Travel Trade Officer of Visit Blackpool stated why the Blackpool Tower remains a firm favourite with visitors:
"Blackpool Tower has such a broad, family appeal and is held with such great affection by people of all ages. It's become a really iconic symbol of the North West, and as you see it on the horizon approaching Blackpool, it really heralds the start of your holiday."
