Edinburgh’s spirits are rattling their chains and turning in their graves as organisers announce the Mary King’s Ghost Fest 2010 programme which might include a few surprises for some of the city’s paranormal residents.
Now into its sixth year, the award-winning Mary King’s Ghost Fest (Thursday 18 - Tuesday 23 March 2010) is hosting more than 31 separate events likely to attract both the true believer and sceptical cynic. Expected to be particularly tiring for the city’s spooks and spirits this year is the introduction of a one-day career session on becoming a Ghost Hunter with Living TV’s Most Haunted parapsychologist, Dr Ciaran O’Keefe.
Other new events range in ‘spook’ factor from spine-tingling story telling aboard the Ghostboat on the Union Canal to paranormal investigations of the Scotch Malt Whisky Society Vaults and a Close Encounter with medium Chris Conway (Living TV’s Most Haunted) at The Real Mary King’s Close allowing visitors to decide for themselves if Edinburgh’s paranormal tales ring true or not!
Edinburgh has a healthy haunted history and with new venues joining Ghost Fest this year, visitors will have the unique chance to explore Edinburgh’s never before seen dark-side. Rarely open to the public unless by invitation, spirits of a different kind will be explored at Leith’s Scotch Malt Whisky Vaults whilst the Mercat Tours led tour of the National Trust of Scotland property, Newhailes will look more closely at the ‘other side’ of this beautiful, historic house.
Lisa Robshaw, Mary King’s Ghost Fest Organiser and Marketing Manager at The Real Mary King’s Close visitor attraction which runs the annual festival is delighted that Edinburgh can show-off its spirited side for another year, commenting; “I’m not sure if it’s the promise of darker, and therefore creepier, nights now we have moved the event to March, but it’s great to see so many of the city’s more ‘mainstream’ venues throwing open their doors and lock-gates for this event. With new partners and some never-before-seen paranormal exploration Mary King’s Ghost Fest has something for everyone.”
