The Feast of Light celebrations are taking place in Cyprus tomorrow, where travelers will witness a breath-taking display to commemorate the religious occasion.

Cyprus’ town of Larnaca hosts a particularly dramatic service by the sea for the ceremony, also known as Epiphany. Here, the Bishop leads a procession down to the sea before throwing the holy cross into the waters.

Young men dive into the sea to retrieve the cross, whilst doves are released and boats sound their horns.

The Feast of Light commemorates Christ’s baptism in the River Jordan and the symbolic rebirth of man, and is celebrated in a number of seaside towns in Cyprus.

Larnaca is the oldest living city in Cyprus, founded around 6,000 years ago, and boasts temperatures of around 70 degrees in winter.
