In case you haven't been out or seen the news for a while there's a big bad credit crunch going on right now. It doesn't have to be all doom and gloom though; case in point the Great British holiday. OK so we may not be able to rival foreign nations on sun but a fun time can be had by all in this great land of ours.
Femalefirst have looked into the best places to visit and even thrown in some celeb spotting for you. Who says the credit crunch has to spoil all your fun.
Liverpool
Scouser-ville was named the Capital of Culture 2008, and it's easy to see why. The city has undergone some work of late and is looking all shiny and new. If history floats your boat this city has it in bucketfuls; it houses more museums, galleries and World Heritage site than any other British City outside of London. It also boasts two cathedrals which are also major attractions.
More importantly the city is known for its shops, what better way to get rid of all the money you've saved by holidaying in Britain! The Cavern Quarter on Mathew Street is one of the grestest shopping meccas in the country with designer shops like Vivienne Westwood and Cricket.
Celeb Spotting: Liverpool's shops attract the likes of Colleen Rooney and Alex Curran and with show being filmed in the city there's always plenty of Hollyoaks hotties around. Girls Aloud are also said to be fond of the city. Cricket is best for celeb spotting during the day and on a night head to Newz Bar on Water Street to get a gander at the celebs.
London
Our very own capital has it all; there's no way you could ever be bored in this city. Tourist attractions such as Big Ben, the London Eye and Madame Tussauds are always popular as are the Tate Modern and the British museum.
However if the thought of being caught in queues at tourist hotspots puts you off, there's plenty more to be getting on with. Camden Market is one of best market's in the coutry, boasting a huge range of products and styles. There's is no where quite like Camden for finding unique items. If you're not all spent up Oxford Street is best for High Street shopping although it is always packed so make sure you give yourself plenty of time.
Celeb Spotting: Well you can't swing a hangbag with hitting at least one celebrity in London so celeb spotting shouldn't be a challenge. Everyone has made a trip to the cityin their time, Paris Hilton as well as many other have recently visited teh city.
Check out Electric Brasserie in Notting Hill, Chinawhite in Soho and Anglesea Arms in South Kensington which are known celeb hang outs.
Famed as being the Las Vegas of the UK, why travel abroad when we have Blackpool right here. There's one sentance regarding Blackpool which has me running for the next train - world's biggest mirror ball. Measuring 20 feet across it stands on the Promenade and is the most disco-tastic thing ever.
No trip to Blackpool would be complete without the Pleasure Beach. The Pepsi Max Big One is the tallest and fastest rollercoaster in Europe so if that's how you get your kicks it's worth checking out.
Celeb Spotting: Many a Corrie star hangs out in the glittering city and you may catch sight of some of the rockers from Jethro Tull, who hail from Blackpool. In case your trip is a bust on the old celeb front check out the city's oldest attraction Louis Tussauds Waxworks, which has featured stars such as Kylie, Elton John and Elvis.
Newcastle
Up on the Tyne there's many a thing to see. After some history then chek out Castle Keep, which also has one of the best views of the River Tyne as well as the whole city. The Centre for Life and The Discovery Museum are also must haves for all historical boffins.
Now shopaholics don't get excited but Newcastle is around the corner from Europe's biggest shopping centre. The Metro Centre houses some of the best high street stores, so you can get some serious shopping in.
A more cultural time can be had in the Baltic Centre for Contemporary Art and The Laing Art Gallery which is the region's best art galleries.
Celeb Spotting: Keep eyes peeled for Newcastle Striker and all round hottie, Micheal Owen. If you're lucky enough you might catch a glimpse of Cheryl Cole when she returns home. Pop into restaurant, The Living Room for best chance of spotting a celeb. Also check out The Lodge bar, which is partially owned by Ant and Dec, you never know you might see the pair if tehy're not too busy in that jungle.
