Affordable Africa

Affordable Africa

Acacia Adventure Holidays' new 2009 brochure is proof that the specialist operator has its finger on the pulse when it comes to innovative itineraries. Adventurers can go green and wildlife view by canoe in Zambia or even take up “ethical trekking” in Morocco – trainee goat herders hosted by a nomadic Berber family on their seasonal migration into the Atlas Mountains.

Travellers can also get off the beaten track in the wilds of Kenya at Lake Turkana and Tsavo East or alternatively play a more active role in anti-poaching and conservation initiatives, available under the tour operator’s new Voluntour section.

Journey To The Sahara

Modern day explorers on Acacia Adventure Holidays’ Journey To The Sahara adventure can experience eight fun filled days of affordable adventure for only £325pp + local payment from £115pp (based on two adults sharing).

The trip features a night in Marrakesh followed by a pit stop in historic Ait Benhaddou. Proving that not all itineraries are written in stone, travellers might also be treated to a spontaneous smattering of hypnotic trance music from the Gnaoua – the tour skirting the Atlas Mountains.

Other cultural highlights include community visits in the Dades Valley, an overnight stay in a Berber camp in Erg Chebbi and excursions to various desert villages and a local school en route to the frontier town of Zagora. First departure 04 January 2009. Year-round departures.

Canoe The Zambezi

Acacia Adventure Holidays’ 5-day Canoe The Zambezi adventure is a greener way to safari, the water-based wildlife viewing trip beginning in Kakomalala, Zambia.

An interesting way to get closer to Africa’s animal kingdom, travellers may well see fish eagles swoop overhead or hippos wallowing along the shore.

The adventure also incorporates an evening game drive, walking safari and village visit at Kaliya – adventurers camping on the banks of Zambia’s river islands. £445pp (based on two adults sharing). Year-round departures.

Anti Poaching

A chance to get more actively involved in African tourism, Acacia Adventure Holidays’ Anti Poaching Voluntour begins with a sunset cruise on the Zambezi River before being briefed by the VFAPU in Zimbabwe’s Zambezi National Park.

Volunteers will join scouts to sweep the park for snares and check on animal populations and water sources. At the end of the trip, adventurers can treat themselves to a spot of optional sky diving, bungy jumping or white water rafting.

The 5-day itinerary costs £375pp + local payment from £38pp (no single supplement) with one-nights camping on the Zambezi River and three-nights youth hostel accommodation. Upgraded accommodation is available. Year-round departures.

Southern Circuits

Overlanding might be the traditional grassroots way to indulge in off the beaten track Africa, but Acacia Adventure Holidays have developed yet another new twist to travel on the continent with their “Southern Circuits” options, ranging from 20 to 42 days.

The itineraries, which combine overlanding with small group safaris, will allow adventurers to travel full circle round Southern Africa; taking in Namibia, Botswana, Zambia, Swaziland and South Africa. Prices start from £695pp + local payment from £449pp (based on two adults sharing). On the 20-day Durban to Windhoek route, campers will go overland stopping at the Fish River Canyon and Etosha National Park, before switching to a small group safari (maximum 14 people) on the second leg and immersing themselves in the beauty of South Africa’s Wild Coast.

Stays on the small group safari are based in comfortable B&B’s and guesthouses. Available year-round.

The above prices include all tour highlights as listed in the brochure, transport, road tolls and taxes, all camping/ accommodation and cooking equipment, most meals and services of tour leader and driver and local guides. Excludes return international flight, visas, departure taxes, transfers, and flexible local payment excursions.
