Princess Diana

Princess Diana

The late Princess Diana's dresses are to be auctioned off this December in Beverly Hills.

A selection of frocks belonging to the royal, which she put under the hammer herself in 1997 in London for charity, are to be sold again later this year in California.

The stunning gowns, which were mostly designed by the late Catherine Walker, are expected to sell for an estimate of between $60,000 and $100,000 each.

However, it's not just the gorgeous dresses that will go on sale on December 5 under Julien's Auctions as a copy of an oversized catalogue that accompanied the original auction in June 1997, one month before Diana died in a car crash in Paris, will also be up for grabs.

There is also a chance to snap up an invitation to the event signed by the Princess of Wales.

The handwritten letter, dated June 1997, reads: "The inspiration for this wonderful sale comes from just one person... our son William."

Other items up for sale at the auction is a slice of cake from Diana's son Prince William and daughter-in-law Duchess Catherine's wedding in 2011, which is expected to fetch between $1,000 and $2,000, as well as a blank invitation to the nuptials.
