Prince Philip

Britain's Prince Philip has met Prince George for the first time.

The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge flew on a private jet to Balmoral castle, the Queen's private estate, in Scotland with their eight-week-old son yesterday afternoon (16.09.13) to finally introduce him to his great grandfather.

Prince Philip was unable to meet the tiny tot when he was born on July 22 at St Mary's Hospital in Paddington, London, as he was recuperating at the Sandringham estate in Norfolk following explanatory abdominal surgery.

The Duke then missed another opportunity to meet the third-in-line to the throne as he had to go to Edinburgh for an official royal engagement before rushing off to join the Queen in Aberdeenshire.

A royal insider is quoted by the Daily Mirror newspaper as saying: "This was an incredible moment for Philip.

"He has been desperate to meet his great grandson and having the family together is really special for him."

The Duke and Duchess of Cornwall are said to be staying at Birkhall, near Balmoral, and there could be a rare opportunity for a unique family photograph as it is the first time in over a century that three heirs to the throne - Prince Charles, Prince William and baby George - have been alive at one time.

The source explained: "Everyone has been waiting for this photo to be taken, and of course the Duke of Edinburgh has been looking forward to seeing his great grandson."
