Britain's Prince William and wife Catherine were involved in the creation of two waxworks which have gone on display in Australia.

Madame Tussauds in Sydney has unveiled the Christmas-themed figures of the royals, who married in 2011.

Store manager Quinn Clarke is over the moon with the new attraction and told the Daily Mirror newspaper: "We are absolutely thrilled to be bestowed this royal visit.

"We have followed the Royal Family very closely in the past, from their spectacular wedding to the recent birth of Prince George so we welcome with joy the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge wax figures to the Sydney auction.

"They are the best[loved couples in the world and visitors now have the incredible opportunity to experience a truly royal visit."

The wax figures took 800 hours and 60 artists to construct and the Duke and Duchess worked closely with them.

The lifelike models show the future heir to the throne wearing a tuxedo and matching gold cufflinks, along with black Oxford brogues and an Omega watch.

Catherine wears a replica of her Alice Temperley evening dress next to a Christmas tree in the scene.

Some visitors have already posed with the 'royal couple' at the museum as well as one of Wills' grandma, Queen Elizabeth II, who was once told by a sculptor to shut her mouth.
