THE UK's first ever 'Holistic Birthing Centre' is opening in April.

The centre is being opened by a team of independent midwives, who have opted out of the NHS system.

It's been a 'labour of love' for independent midwife Tracy Thomas who has spent over a year planning the centre.

Once open, it will give women more choice about how they wish to go through pregnancy and the birthing experience.

"Each pregnancy is an immensely individual time and we are passionate about ensuring mothers are given as much opportunity as possible to experience a natural birth," explained Tracy, who has been a midwife for eight years.

"We have absolute faith in the birth process and actively encourage natural ways to achieve a gentle positive birth experience.

"Education and empowerment help women to make fully informed choices and turn something that can seem daunting.into a fantastic adventure," added Tracy.

Statistics show that there are less interventions (emergency caesareans) among women who use independent midwives.

And many mums use independent midwives 'second time around' because they have not come to terms with issues from a previous birth.

The new centre offers one to one continuous care from a qualified midwife enhancing the woman's potential to remain in control of any decisions that may affect her pregnancy, labour, birth, postnatal, breastfeeding and early parenting experience.

The centre gives women a range of support services including:
· Holistic Counselling
· Life Coaching
· Hypnobirthing
· Homeopathy and Reiki
· Reflexology
· Breech Clinic
· Massage
· Aromatherapy
· Beauty Treatments
· Support for new dads
· Newborn Fitness classes
· Home Birth
· Relaxation techniques
· Support for women hoping to achieve a vaginal birth after caesareansection.
