Grandparents are labelled as being 'cool'

When you think of somebody who is cool, who do you picture? According to the kids, it’s the grandparents that are seen as the coolest, even cooler than mum and dad.

The coolest grandparents let you stay up late, laugh at rude rhymes, tell you secrets and are on Facebook, according to a new study.

The poll by McCarthy & Stone, the UK’s leading retirement developer, have revealed that 65% of children described their grandparents as cool, with 75% saying they hoped to be like their grandparents when they grow old.

Grandparents are on top of the cool list as children admitted to being taken on days out, choosing dinner, having homemade cakes and sweets on hand, as well as being able to stay up late when staying with grandparents.

A further two thirds of children said they could be mischievous when with the grandparents and 15% of kids get treated with pocket money of Nan and granddad.

While touchingly, more than six in ten 5 to 15 year olds, feel they can talk to their grandmother or grandfather about absolutely anything.

It seems children love having grandparents in retirement as they are always active and busy and have fewer responsibilities, making the most of it by spending quality time with loved ones.

Giving good advice, producing amazing meals and still being in love were other things kids admired with eight in ten saying they felt upmost respect for their mum and dad’s parents, with the main reason being because they say what they think. And one in five said ‘they hold the family together.’
