It’s well known that having a child is costly, but some parents will be surprised to find that the average child’s wardrobe has a value of over £1,300.
Obviously, every parent wants the best for their child, but parents are spending extortionate amounts of money decking their children out in fashionable clothing.
Cotton USA found that the average British child will have a wardrobe value of £1,348!
In order to keep their child’s wardrobe stocked, 71 per cent of mums admitted that they spend more on their child’s wardrobe than their own or their partners.
Mums did admit that it was the quality that they are willing to shell out for, ranking this much more important than style.
Durability as well as how the clothing feels on the skin was also put above style, showing that parents only want what is best for their children.
The fabric that the clothes are made from was also a massive factor with 66 per cent of parents saying they look for natural fibres rather than synthetic.
Softness and durability were named equally important, and cotton was said to be the most desired fabric.
Stephanie Thiers-Ratcliffe from COTTON USA said, “The research shows that parents are spending more on their children’s clothes than their own because they want the best quality items for their children.
“While trends come and go, it’s clear that good quality, comfortable and durable fibres like U.S. cotton never go out of fashion.”
