A recent survey with The Adventure Company suggests that taking your child on holiday can not only improve their grades overall but also develop their social skills. During the months of January through till April of this year an online survey was conducted by over 4,000 UK parents and 9 out of 10 said that going on holiday was beneficial for their child’s education. Claire Wilson, a former teacher and managing director at The Adventure Company quotes 'I know just how valuable time at school can be, but learning doesn’t have to stop at the end of term. There’s no greater classroom than the world we live in and going on the sort of holiday where you can introduce your child to different cultures, customs and experiences can have real educational benefits as well as helping them develop a wide range of personal skills and attributes.’

Parents only want the best for their children and by taking them on holiday it can enable them to experience different cultures, meet new people and they can take what they learn and apply it to their school work. Michael Grove, an education secretary recently proposed that school holidays should be decreased. However, parents are set to prove him wrong. 76% of parents that took part in the survey stated that going on holiday with their child helped their confidence and 66% of parents noticed a change in their child when tolerating people’s differences.

During school hours, they can teach your child about the pyramids of Egypt or the Buddhist culture straight from a textbook but these studies show that taking a practical approach to learning can not only help your child in the future but you can also create some unforgettable memories as a family. The most notable subjects that parents felt their children improved in were Geography, History and Languages. Nevertheless, the children also performed better in other subjects such as Religious Studies, Maths and Science. Generally, parents in Yorkshire were the most likely to say that going on holiday was beneficial to their child and 94% percent revealed that their child improved on all of their subjects at school.

The Adventure Company is the UK’s leading family adventure holiday specialist and with over a hundred different trips designed especially for families, they know how to create the perfect holiday memories for you and your family.
