New generation mums are turning to self-employment as a way to keep their CV up to date and avoid ‘baby brain’ whilst on maternity leave.
According to some Avon Sales Leaders, becoming a Representative is a popular option for new mums. Running an Avon enterprise offers women a flexible career solution, helping them to retain and learn valuable business skills, including time management, budgeting and social networking.
Gemma White, Avon Sales Leader from Sutton Coldfield became an Avon Representative in March 2010, a few weeks after giving birth to her second baby. She comments:
“Before going off on maternity leave I was a member of the backroom staff at House of Fraser which I loved. Despite wanting to spend time with the baby I was keen to find part time work that would enable me to get out of the house and earn some extra money.
The scalable hours that Avon offers have allowed me to spend as much time with my family as I need. It’s given me a much needed post-baby confidence boost and I have no plans to give up my business when I start back at work.”
Avon Senior Executive Sales Leader Carolyn Bannister, who has a team of 951 Representatives, is reporting around a 10+% rise in new mums signing up year on year.
Carolyn says; “Avon is particularly appealing to new mums on maternity leave. The flexibility and minimal start-up cost mean that it is fairly easy to get an Avon business up and running. I joined on maternity leave myself and speak to lots of women who also join on maternity who want to have something else to keep them occupied, but importantly to work around their new family. Running their own business is a great way to do something for them.”
