New mums are taking them out for social activites

Nearly two thirds  of mums today, leave the house within 48 hours of giving birth compared to just 34 per cent of mums forty years ago , according to new research released today by tommee tippee.

Not only are today’s mum’s out of the house in record time they’re also travelling further afield than ever before with one in five travelling up to five miles a day, more than double the previous generation.

The research shows, forty years ago, 41 per cent of mums would simply visit their neighbour’s house with their newborn. However, today’s mums admit they indulge themselves (and baby) in their favourite pastime - shopping, one in ten like to have fun splashing around at the swimming pool and one fifth enjoying social events such as baby yoga, power pram-ing or the cinema.

But, this on the go lifestyle is proving tricky when it comes to baby changing with half of those surveyed agreeing they worry about where they will change and dispose of baby’s nappy when out and about.  42 per cent admit trying to hide dirty nappies in the buggy with their baby, 40 per cent stuff it in their changing bag until they get home and 16 per cent even cut socialising time short to dispose of a used nappy.
