This year, Britain will spend £1.4billion on chidren's presents for Christmas, according to recent government statistics.
The study, by YouGov, found that the average spend on each child will be £104 with one in five parents planning to spend over £200 per child.
However, it is not just the kids that will be enjoying the presents this Christmas, as 43 per cent of Brits will spend at least £75 on their partner and 37 per cent admitted they will be buying gifts for people, despite knowing they won't be receiving one in return.
Over a half of the nation said that buying and wrapping gifts for others was their favourite moment at Christmas.
However, money aside, 62 per cent of the public said that spending quality time with friends is what will make christmas memorable this year, while a third are looking forward to the family games and a fifth are most excited about putting the angel on the tree.
The survey which questioned over 2,000 adults was funded by Sainsbury's.
Sarah Warby, Marketing Director at the supermarket said: "Christmas is a really special time for our customers. This research shows that although pressures on household budgets continue, customers are still able to enjoy moments of indulgence and treat their friends and family.
“We also know that Christmas isn’t just about one day, but a series of moments that are celebrated throughout the festive season.
"Whether that be giving and receiving gifts, spending time with friends and family or putting the angel on top of the tree, we want our customers to celebrate the rituals that make the build up to Christmas special for them.”
