Nims Island

We always knew Female First fans were a talemted bunch but we didn't realise your kids were little genius's too- that is until we asked them to enter our short story competition.

To celebrate the DVD release of Nims Island we asked you to get your creative children to put pen to paper and write us a magical short story and have the chance of winning some fab signed Nims Island goodies.

The entries came in by the sack load so we got Nims Island author Wendy Orr to help us pick out a winner.

She chose Precious Lily White by Sabrina Draude, Aged 13.

"I was thrilled to see the originality and imagination of these stories, as well as the quality of the writing," says Wendy.

"The writers all show talent and I hope that they will continue to write, experiment, and hone their skills. I'm very happy to have this shortlist of four stories up on my website: www.wendyorr.com."

"I have awarded first prize to "Precious Lily White" because of the strength of Sabrina's writing. The reader's pity for the central character turns to horror as this chilling story twists and turns! "

Precious Lily White by Sabrina Draude

Silently, she sat in the cold dim room. Her bare feet touched the freezing floor. She blinked slowly and stared into the stained, peeling, musty, once white wall. She had no feelings, a blank face in an abyss of nothingness. How long had she been here? The days meant nothing; it was enough to send someone insane but not her, not Precious Lilly White.

As the meals of rubber served on burned meat came and went her brain buzzed and fluttered with lost memories and secrets. No words could say what she felt. The emptiness and deep temptation of the grief-stricken room was rotting the girl’s skin away closing off all the joyfulness of childhood. Strange odours and sniffs lingered in the air. It was quite a depressing room, blank and so cold.

She sat in the centre of the room facing into one of the many bare walls. Long coal black curls rested on her bony Knees. Her big, dark, empty blue eyes seemed distant and focused on something millions of years away. She was beautiful, and even though she was in such a place when few strands of light shone upon her radiant magnificence. She was the light in this cold, distant lonely place.

Footsteps echoed down the corridor. She started shaking, terror in her eyes. Bells ringing in her ears. She started to breathe heavily, a bead of sweat dripped down the side of her scarlet face. It was time for her daily pain. The white coats stepped in. Their faces slightly hidden by hideous, dark, glass goggles. Their eerie eyes fixed on her, under the goggles and coats they were afraid. Scared of what innocent Precious Lilly White could achieve.. Terrified of her because she was different. Different was unnatural, inhuman, different was her.

She waited patiently as the strange white coated people prodded and poked her. There was no use struggling, she was caught like a helpless fly in a spiders web. They worked quickly and she managed to catch out some words in their muttered speak “Experiment six is truly a work of art, such a shame though.” “She deserves better than this, she is so guiltless, they can’t do this to her.” “Come on guys remember what she has done, the devastation she has caused, treat her like an animal for that’s what she truly is” “Turn your back and you could be next, none is sure of just how much power is inside that creature!”

As the freezing tears dripped off her icy face, she wondered whether there was any other life out there, a happy life unlike the tortured life she led. The black oozing anger had crept and built up inside her like a volcano ready to burst at any second, she needed to break free. If only she could meet her father, he kept her believing, and strong, he gave her the best power of all hope. She had always wondered what her powers were; they must be good if they are always spoken of by the white coats. Could she really be as powerful as she was made out to be? What was experiment six? Why was she so alone, isolated and scared?

Although, from the start is was obvious to why she was different, but she took human shape and form, on the bed of dark curly hair sat two bony, slightly curved inwards horns. She raised her pale hands to touch the smoothness of the horns. A shiver went down her spine. They had created her abnormal self; they had led her to this miserable life. They were the trouble. The white coats left and she was once again left alone.. She let out a sigh of relief and went back to staring into the nothingness the engulfed the confined room.

It was late and she must have been sleeping, because she awoke to flickering of the lights. What’s going on she thought to herself, as the lights came on for a split second before she was plunged into darkness a sudden surge of energy built up in her body, the anger was pouring out, and fast, she could not control herself, it was taking over.

“Quick the experiments are escaping, hurry up it won’t be long before they are upon us, quickly.” One of the white coats screamed at his team. This was Mr Jones, he was in charge of the Pennyworth scientific centre, and he had no intention of letting anything to happen in his command. Unlike anyone else in the room, he knew that there was only a tiny chance that they would get out alive. If his team could just speed up the human race may just survive.

From the bottom of the rusting creepy building, many shouts and the firing of guns could be heard. But, the centres high security system would never be able to hold these creatures up. Dr Jones knew that they were as good as dead now, they were trapped. The experiments were loose and coming for him. It felt good to Ruby to be back; too many wasted days had been spent on being Precious Lilly White. The loser that felt sorry for herself the whole time was gone the murderess mind was back. She was ready, she had not killed for ages and the anger needed to be released. She broke through the door with no hesitation. Her force field was charged up her mind open. Others surrounded her in the dark, gloomy hall way, the army of Sohila was ready.

A little girl in the darkness looked up at the armed guard; he had not been informed of the situation, he had no idea what to expect. But the frail girl in the corner of the room needed some love. He walked towards her. She walked out of the darkness and into the light. He tried to scream but it was too late, his body crumpled and fell to the floor. His blood was splattered all over the musty walls. Ruby continued to walk along her feet echoed along the floor. She was humming a sad song, softly; humanity was going to pay the ultimate price. Her army of minions followed her along the confusing corridors like zombies.

His last guards pushed against the steel doors, but the powers of the minions soon overcame his guards, and at once blood was shed. One by one his guards lay motionless on the floor. Ruby stopped a few meters away from him and gazed through her dark blue misleading eyes at his face. He nearly fell for her trap, but he knew he had a few seconds to live, and had to choose his moves carefully. “Daddy” She spoke the few simple words with so much sorrow and sadness. Her face crumpled and the tears flowed down her scarlet face. The minions all looked up at him with so much love and affection, they seemed to expect so much of him more than he deserved, for of course they did not know what a monster he was. They all loved him.

Ruby had never seen her father before. He was the only one who could understand her.. Together they could rule this measly planet. The pain of his love was far more than the bullet. Her heart shattered into tiny pieces. As she stumbled and fell her mind was on fire as nothing was worth living for. None would ever understand Precious Lilly White. He had done it the ring leader was emotionless lying sideways on the floor. Her eyes so cold and hopeful lay in his mind; at least he thought it would all be over soon. The smoking gun was still in his hand, the trigger still hot. His eyes stung as the minions were soon upon him, their china doll faces glaring into him. As the life escaped from him he would never be sure weather or not they would succeed, but it was too late for that now.

The End…… Or is it?
